WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Jan. 29, 2020 - The Cougars (11-6, 4-5) faced Waynesburg (4-14, 3-6) in a matchup in Waynesburg, PA on Wednesday, January 29th. They were recently coming off a road loss to Westminster on Saturday, January 25th by a final of 52-51.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle between both teams, with Chatham trailing the Yellow Jackets 15-9 with 1:31 to play in the quarter. Waynesburg went on a 4-0 run to end the first quarter, staying on top 19-9 heading into the second quarter.
Both teams went back and forth, Chatham trailed by three with 3:41 to play in the half. The Cougars came within one with 00:05 seconds remaining in the half as Aliyah Labriola made a layup in the paint. Waynesburg led Chatham 35-34 at half.
With under six minutes to play in the third quarter, Waynesburg tied the score 45-45 with a layup by Andrea Orlosky. Sophomore Katie Fertig's layup put the Cougars ahead 57-46 with 00:55 on the clock.
The deciding quarter turned into Chatham leading by as many as 16 after first-year Sierra McClain's three pointer made the score 67-51 with 3:34 left in the contest. McClain would be the last Cougar to score in the game, as the Cougars won their fifth conference game of the year 67-53 over the Yellow Jackets.
Emily Ondo led the Chatham offense, scoring 19 and adding 12 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double, 12th for the season. Labriola also added a double double of her own, her second straight double-double as she pitched in 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Fertig tallied 15 points for the Cougars.
Chatham returns home to face Washington and Jefferson on Saturday, February 1st in the Athletics and Fitness Center.
