CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jan. 2nd, 2020 - The Cougars (7-2) took on the Spartans of Case Western Reserve (4-6) on Thursday, January 2nd in a non-conference matchup. Chatham was coming off of a loss on Wednesday, December 18th to Washington and Jefferson 76-67.
The first quarter opened up with Chatham finding themselves down early as much as 10 with under three minutes to go in the first quarter. Case Western Reserve would put together a run of their own towards the end of the quarter advancing their lead to 10 (20-10) going into the second. The second quarter was a back and forth battle, as Chatham would tie the score at 27 even with a free-throw from first-year Sierra McClain. The Spartans would go ahead of Chatham by one point into half 29-28.
Chatham would not give up easily, as the Cougar's started to fire back in the start of the third quarter. Unable to put together a comeback, Chatham would fall to the Spartans by a final score 71-51, giving the Cougars their third loss of the season.
Sophomore Katie Fertig led the way for the Cougars with 15 points. Emily Ondo and first-year Nicole Mellinger added eight points. Ondo grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Cougars are back in action against Grove City on the road Saturday, January 4th. They will be back in the den on Wednesday, January 8th as they will take on the Bison of Bethany.
