After Second Half Surge, Cougars Prevail to Take Down Geneva 69-59

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 15, 2020 - The Cougars (9-4, 3-3) were back in the den to take on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva (1-11, 0-5) in a conference matchup on Wednesday January, 15th. Chatham looked to extend their winning streak to three, after taking down Bethany and most recently Thiel on Saturday, January 11th.

Chatham went down early, trailing Geneva by nine after a three by Emily Melnek with under three minutes to play in the first quarter. The Cougars would go down as many as 12 points in the first half, losing 33-21 with five minutes to play in the half. They would pull within four right before the break, trailing Geneva 35-31.

The third quarter proved to be the Cougars, as they would start the second half off on a 9-4 run taking a one point lead after sophomore Katie Fertig connected on a three making the score 40-39. They never gave up the lead, as the Cougars would pull out their third straight victory defeating Geneva 69-59.

Fertig led the way for Chatham with 30 points while first year Sierra McClain added 14 of her own to go along with seven steals. First year Riley D'Angelo pitched in 12 points and added seven rebound to her stat line.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, January 18th as they will host Valley Forge in a non-conference matchup.
