Cougars claw their way to a 3-2 victory in home-opener vs Allegheny

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sept. 7, 2019 – The Chatham University women's soccer team edged Allegheny 3-2 this evening in non-conference action. 

THE BACKSTORY
After their third game of the 2019 campaign, your Chatham Cougars now have a 2-0-1 overall record. The Allegheny Gators were served their first loss today, moving them to 2-1-1 overall. The teams met last year in Allegheny, where the Gators defeated the Cougars 1-0 despite Chatham outshooting them 20-2. 

SCORELESS FIRST HALF
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. The first half saw ten shots total, including five shots on goal.

To the delight of the packed stands at Ellis Field, five goals were scored in the final 30 minutes of the game. Allegheny got things started with a goal at 60:39. A Kelsey Calamaro penalty kick put Chatham on the board at 76:51. The Gators were quick to answer back with a goal less than a minute later. For her third goal of the season, Victoria Vernail found the back of the net off another penalty kick to tie things up at 82:28. Morgan Anderson scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the game, off an assist from Greta Mort
