Chatham battles Juniata to 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Sept. 3, 2019 – The Chatham University women's soccer team remains undefeated after a 1-1 double overtime tie at Juniata this evening.

THE BACKSTORY
After their second non-conference game of the 2019 campaign, your Chatham Cougars now have a 1-0-1 overall record and were picked to finish third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Juniata Eagles are currently 0-1-1 overall, after being slated to finish eighth in the Landmark Conference. In their last matchup in 2018, Chatham bested Juniata 2-1 with the home field advantage. 

VERNAIL DOES IT AGAIN
The senior from Purcellville, Va. found the back of the net for the second time in just as many games. Vernail scored at 34:37 off an assist from first-year Greta Mort of Rockwood, Pa. Vernail took four shots on goal, with two on frame this evening. 

COUGAR CONTROL
Chatham dominated the playing field outshooting Juniata 25-9, including 12 shots on goal. The Cougars held a 9-1 corner kick edge over the Eagles. A strong Chatham defense held Juniata to just four shots on goal in 110 minutes of action. 

OT TALK
The first overtime saw zero shots from both sides of the field. The second OT was also short on shots, despite Chatham averaging ten a half during regulation. Senior Kyla Kelley (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) got a shot off early in the final ten minutes, but it was stopped by the Eagles keeper. After two back-to-back corner kicks, in a last stich effort to score first-year Cassidy Martin (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) took a shot that went wide right for the final play of the game. Juniata was unable to get a single shot off during the entire 20 minutes of overtime action.
