PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Dec. 7, 2019 - The Cougars (6-1, 0-1) took on the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg (1-5, 0-1) on Saturday, December 7th in their second conference game of the season. Chatham was coming off a tough loss on Wednesday, December 4th to Westminster in a down to the wire game 59-57
The first quarter opened up with Chatham finding themselves ahead early, going up 8-4 after a three by grad student Emily Ondo with six minutes to go in the first quarter. Waynesburg would put together a run of their own towards the end of the quarter tying the score up 18-18 going into the second. The second quarter proved to be all Cougars, as they would go ahead 17 after a jump shot by sophomore Sierra Short. Waynesburg would trail Chatham going into the break by a score of 43-26.
Chatham would not let their foot off the gas pedal, as their lead over the Yellow Jackets would extend to as many as 32 in the third quarter. Unable to put together a comeback, Waynesburg would fall by a final of 88-70, giving the Cougars their first conference win of the season.
Emily Ondo led the way for the Cougars with 30 points, her season high so far this year. Junior Katie Fertig added 21 of her own while first year Riley D'Angelo scored 15 points herself.
The Cougars are back in action against the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday, January 18th. They will be back in the den on Wednesday, January 8th as they will take on the Bison of Bethany.
