PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Dec. 4, 2019 - The Cougars (6-0, 0-0) were back on the court at home Wednesday, December 4th as they faced the Titans of Westminster (6-0, 0-0) in their first PAC conference matchup of the 2019-20 season. Chatham was coming off of an away victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny for their sixth win of the season.
Offensively for both teams early on, it was a close-knit contest. Westminster emerged on top at the end of the first quarter after the back and forth start, pulling ahead of Chatham. As the first quarter came to a close, the Cougars sank two free-throws by Sierra McClain decreasing Westminster's lead to 3 points.
The second quarter was a back and forth fight between both teams, with the Titans going ahead of Chatham 23-14 with under five minutes to play in the half. The Cougars continued to play catch up for the rest of the quarter, trailing by seven points at half (25-18 Westminster).
Chatham started to catch up to the Titans in the third quarter, going up as much as 7 to make the score 41-34 with under a minute left. The Titans would continue to battle away, cutting the Cougars' lead to one with under nine minutes remaining in the game. Unable to make a full comeback, the Cougars would fall to the Titans 59-57, ending Chatham's winning streak of six games. The Cougars were led by first-year Kaitlyn Fertig who had 16 points and graduate student Emily Ondo added 15 points of her own.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, December 7th in another PAC conference matchup as they will take on the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg.
