Cougars Push Past PSU Greater Allegheny 76-70 for Fifth Win of Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Nov. 26, 2019 - The Cougars (4-2, 0-0) went up against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Greater Allegheny (5-2, 1-2) on Tuesday, November 26th in their pre-Thanksgiving matchup. Chatham was coming off a home win Saturday, November 23rd against Allegheny College 68-62.

Chatham went down early after a quick seven point scoring burst by the Nittany Lions early in the half. The Cougars would climb back, shaving Penn State's lead to two with 13 minutes left until the break. Minutes later Chatham would pull ahead after a three by first year Elijah Sutton. After a back and forth first half by both teams, they would go into the break tied 36-36.

The Cougars would come out of the gates roaring, as they jumped out to a quick five-point lead to open the half. Chatham would extend their lead to as much as 11 points in the second half, but Penn State wouldn't fold. Rallying back, the Nittany Lions pulled within one of Chatham with six minutes to go in the game. The Cougars would answer with a 9-0 run in a minute, seven of those points coming from junior Malik Potter. Penn State was unable to mount a second comeback, as Chatham would hold on for their fifth win of the season by a final of 76-70.

The Cougars were led by Potter and grad student Will Sandherr, both pouring in 18 points each. Sophomore Ray Sandherr chipped 10 points and eight rebounds, both season highs this year.

Chatham is back protecting the den Wednesday, December 4th in their conference opener against the Titans of Westminster.
