PITTSBURGH, PA. – Sept. 25, 2018 – The Chatham University women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over the Barons of Franciscan. First year Paxton Steffy scored a goal in the ninth minute, graduate student Megan Sieg added a security goal in the 52nd minute and junior Victoria Vernail scored a penalty kick goal to lead the Cougars to victory. Sophomore Ashley Bergman and the Chatham defense claimed their third shutout of the year. With the win the Cougars improve to 6-2 overall and the Barons drop to 2-6 overall in 2018.
CHATHAM STRIKES FIRST
The Cougars found an early goal in the ninth minute when Vernail set Steffy up to find the back of the net. Sieg took a pass from senior Julie Bruening before scoring the second goal of the game in the 52nd minute. Vernail took the PK opportunity earning a third goal for the Cougars.
BACKLINE STRONG
The backline claimed its third shutout of the year and limited the Barons to three shots, including just one shot on goal.
COUGARS ON THE ATTACK
Chatham outshot Franciscan 25-3, including 12 shots on frame. Megan Sieg registered three shots on goal. First year Morgan Anderson totaled two shots on goal. Nine Cougars notched at least one shot on net in tonight's match. The Cougars held a 7-3 corner kick advantage.
