Baseball Drops DH at W&J on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, PA – April 14, 2018 – Despite holding an early 3-0 lead in game one, the Chatham University baseball team could not hold on against host W&J and fell 14-4 in the opener, followed by a 13-3 setback in game two.
 
RECORDS: Chatham drops to 7-16 (0-10 PAC) while W&J improves to 17-9-1 (9-1 PAC).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will be hosting Saint Vincent in a PAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 17 starting at 1 pm.
 
GAME ONE (W&J 14, Chatham 4)
 
AT THE PLATE: Chatham collected eight hits as senior Carmen Jansante (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
 
Sophomore Justin Silvious (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) went 1-for-1 with three walks, one run and one RBI. Sophomore Cameron Moeller (Blacklick, Ohio/Licking Heights) collected an RBI double while senior Nick Ramsey (Bradenton, Fla./Palmetto) enjoyed a triple.
 
ON THE MOUND: Sophomore Connor Paul (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) earned the start and suffered the loss, tossing four innings. Junior Brett Vallorani (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), junior Bryan Crawford (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and first-year Austin Andonisio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) all appeared in relief.
 
GAME TWO (W&J 13, Chatham 3)
 
AT THE PLATE: Again, the Cougars ripped eight hits as Jansante finished with a two-run homer to left field in the eighth.
 
Silvious went 2-for-4, Ramsey finished 2-for-3 and sophomore Hunter Steele (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) went 2-for-4.
 
Junior James Bolander (Fairmont, W.V./East Fairmont) enjoyed a ground-rule RBI double in the seventh.
 
ON THE MOUND: First-year Ryan Shawley (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) got the starting not, tossing 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Junior Devin Shumaker (Distant, Pa./Redbank Valley), sophomore Meier Parr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and senior Austin Ferris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) threw the final 5 2/3 frames.
