PITTSBURGH, Pa. – NOVEMBER 17th, 2018 – The Chatham Cougars were edged 74-69 by Case Western Reserve in the final game of the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Classic earlier today. After this weekend the Cougars sit at 3-2 overall.
Chatham started off strong leading Case Western 29-16 after the first period of play. Heading into halftime, the Spartans held a 34-32 lead over the Cougars. The final two periods saw three lead changes and two tied score but ultimately Case Western would finish with the 74-69 victory.
For the fifth consecutive game, senior
Ashley McClain scored double figures. Against the Spartans, McClain recorded 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. Graduate student
Megan Sieg and first-year
Kaitlyn Fertig scored 14 points each.
Megan Sieg added seven rebounds and three steals. Junior
Sierra Ungerman grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds this afternoon, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor.
The defense of Chatham limited Case Western to just a shooting percentage of 22% from beyond the arc while forcing 11 turnovers. The Cougars held a 49-47 rebound advantage over the Spartans. Overall, Chatham shots 88% at the free throw line, including going 10-for-10 in the first half. Three Cougars shot 100% at the line.
