Assistant Squash Coach Jose Fernandez joins the Cougars for his first season in 2021-22.

A 2020 graduate of Saint Lawrence University, Fernandez brings a wealth of Squash experience to the Chatham program. He served as a coach and intern for CitySquash in New York where he helped young students focus on their education and sharpen their squash abilities.

During his collegiate career, he interned with the Squash and Education Alliance, aiding in the development of elite squash tournaments and camps for youth players as well as utilizing his coaching and management skills. He also served as a summer camp squash coach at Eaglebrook in Deerfield, Massachusetts, providing training and conditioning workouts for young athletes wanting to reach the next level of performance.

Since coming to Chatham, Fernandez has also lent his time to Steel City Squash, serving as a coach and mentor to kids between 6th and 12th grade.

Fernandez earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication and Performance Arts while minoring in Religious Studies. He was also an active member of SLU Men in Color and served as the secretary for SLU Carefree Black Girls for the promotion of cultural events and student engagement.
