Cody Cook

Chatham University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Cody Cook as Head Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving Coach ahead of the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Cook comes to Chatham from his most recent coaching stint with the Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio, where he served as a Level 1 Coach. The swimmers ranged from ages 8-12 and Cook was charged with planning practices based on skill development. Prior to starting with GCSTO, he worked as a Coach for the Hudson HEAT Levels 1-3 while acting as an assistant coach for Levels 4-6, implementing practice plans as well as strength and conditioning workouts.

Before lending his expertise to young swimmers, Cook served as an assistant Coach at the College of Wooster where he trained sprinters and lower middle-distance swimmers based around neuromuscular improvement. While with the Fighting Scots, he helped lead a 100 yard backstroke swimmer to a school record as well as an NCAA Division III qualifying time. Off of the pool deck, Cook played an essential role in recruiting prospective student-athletes for the betterment of the program.

While Cook was a college athlete himself, he served as an assistant with the staffs at both Ashland and Malone Universities, helping athletes build strength and make crucial stroke adjustments. During this time, he also coached with St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Canton City Schools Club, and the Naval Academy's swim camp.

Outside of swimming, Cook has ample sports performance coaching experience that translates to preparing his athletes for competition. He served as a Strength and Conditioning Intern with the Mayo Clinic in 2018, gaining hands on experience with workout creation for several sports while training athletes between the ages of 10 and 20 with experience levels ranging from novice to collegiate Division I. Using this knowledge, he has continued to work as a sports performance trainer, specifically in improving movement and power development.

"I am excited to bring Coach Cook into Chatham," said Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Leonard Trevino. "He has experience not only with getting swimmers to perform their best in the pool based on their individual needs, but also with getting them best prepared outside of the pool. I have no doubt that he will be a formidable addition to our ever-growing program."

Cook swam his own collegiate career at Malone University, from which he graduated in 2019 with a degree in Exercise Science. He has since been pursuing his masters in the same field at Ashland University.
