Michael Gershon

Entering his fourth season as Head Coach at Chatham University in 2024-25, Michael Gershon has already made a significant impact on the Cougars' hockey program. In his debut season, he led the team to its first playoff appearance, setting a new record with five conference wins. Gershon surpassed this achievement in his second season, securing seven conference victories and earning a fourth-place finish in the regular season, which included hosting a UCHC Playoff game. Under his leadership, the Cougars advanced to their first-ever semifinal after defeating Nazareth in the quarterfinals. Gershon is now the all-time wins leader at Chatham.

Gershon came to Chatham after four seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Robert Morris University. In his final season there, Robert Morris won the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Conference Tournament before the remainder of the season was canceled. In the previous three seasons, the team made it to the semifinal and final rounds under Gershon's guidance.

Before his tenure at Robert Morris, Gershon served as head coach, general manager, and president of various teams in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for three years. During this time, he guided 31 players into college hockey careers and led his teams to three consecutive playoff appearances, including one championship. He concluded his NAHL coaching career with an impressive 88-57-19 record.

Gershon also held the position of Associate Head Coach for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL, where he played a crucial role in helping the team achieve the second-best record in the Western Conference, narrowly missing a spot in the Clark Cup Finals.

As a player, Gershon had a successful college hockey career at SUNY-Brockport, where he earned second-team All-SUNYAC honors in his senior year and served as an assistant captain. After college, he played professionally for the Wheeling Nailers, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), and for the Port Huron Icehawks in the International Hockey League (IHL).

Gershon currently resides locally with his wife, Brandy, and their son, Jaxon.
