Calas, a 2020 graduate from Chatham University, earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Chatham. He was a three year member of the men's hockey program. Calas returned to Chatham in 2025 as an assistant men's hockey coach, helping lead the Cougars to their best season in program history.

Prior to his time at Chatham, Calas worked at Penn Trafford High School.
