Rebecca Pennington is entering her first season as Head Cross Country Coach in 2024.
Pennington comes from Berea College as the assistant XC/T&F coach. During her time at Berea, the women's team won the CCS XC Conference Championships in 2023 and the CCS Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2024. The men's team won the CCS XC Conference Championships in 2022. Pennington coached three individual CCS conference champions in XC. Four CCS conference champions in the 10k, three CCS conference champions in the 5k, one CCS conference champion in the 1500, and one CCS champion in the 3k steeple. She also coached one individual NCAA National Qualifier in XC.Â
Pennington returns to Chatham after graduating in 2022 with a Bachelor's in Exercise Science. During her running career at Chatham, she became the first athlete to qualify for an NCAA Championships in the 2018 NCAA XC Championships and was the individual PAC champion in 2018 during the XC season. She won the PAC individual MVP overall award and track award for the 2019 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons. Pennington was awarded the NCAA DIII Mideast Region All-Academic and Athletic Awards for XC and All-Regionals Academic and Athletic Awards in Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.Â
Pennington is originally from Karns City, Pennsylvania, where she ran cross country and track & field. She also volunteered as an assistant coach at Karns City High School.
