Men's Volleyball Turns Tables on Golden Tornadoes, Advances to PAC Semifinal

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Third-seeded Chatham Men's Volleyball (15-8, 8-4 PAC) went down 2 sets to none in the PAC Quarterfinals against #6 Geneva (9-19, 3-9), but were able to sweep the final three sets to claim their first postseason victory in program history by a 3-2 (24-26, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-12) scoreline in front of an energetic crowd at the Athletic and Fitness Center.
 
Tim McCabe led the Cougars with 16 kills, 12 digs and an ace. Ben Shelestak also recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Armani George tallied 13 kills on a stellar .500 hitting percentage. John Gasiorowski contributed a match-high 19 digs, and RJ Nagg notched 47 assists along with 14 digs for Chatham.
 
The Golden Tornadoes held the lead for the majority of the opening set. The Cougars came back from down 16-10 to tie the set at both 19 and 24, but Geneva was able to take a 1-0 advantage. Chatham knotted the second set at 18 apiece before the Golden Tornadoes took the final 7 points for a 2-0 match lead. With their season on the line, kills by McCabe and Derek Kintzer put the Cougars ahead 18-14, then kills by Shelestak and George helped get a set back for Chatham. The Cougars rode the momentum into set four, using a 12-2 run aided by McCabe and Jordan Haas aces to go ahead 18-9. RJ Nagg's kill made the score 2-2 and forced a decisive fifth set. After the score was tied 8-8, two Kintzer kills put Chatham up 13-10, and two service errors by Golden Tornadoes allowed the Cougars to advance to the PAC Semifinals for the first time.
 
Geneva had a .198 hitting percentage in the match and held an 11-2 edge over Chatham in blocks. The Cougars attacked at a .178 clip on the evening.
 
Men's Volleyball will head to second-seeded Saint Vincent on Thursday for a 7 p.m. PAC Semifinal matchup.
