Men's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with Dominant Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Wednesday, the Cougars (13-3, 8-1 PAC) wrapped up the regular season schedule with a dominant performance against the Bethany Bison (1-14, 0-9). The Cougars dominated this game from the opening face off flying to an easy 30-1 victory. The Cougars have now tied the program single season wins record, set by last year's PAC runner up team.

The Cougars took just 16 seconds to get the scoring going as Jacob Lubawy scored his first goal of the game, assisted by Brady Rigdon. That started an eight goal first quarter where the Cougars held the Bison off the scoreboard. The quarter was highlighted by three different Cougars recording a pair of goals, Lubawy, Thomas Whitaker and Luke Iovino.

The second quarter is where the Cougars offense exploded outsourcing the Bison 17-1 in the quarter. The quarter was highlighted for the Cougars by Whitaker's four goals. Erik Sahlgren recorded two goals and two assists in the quarter. There were multiple times in the quarter where the Cougars scored two goals in less than 30 seconds and one time where the Cougars scored three goals in a 16 second span with three different goal scorers. The Cougars held a 25-1 lead as the teams broke for halftime.

In the third quarter, the Cougars offense pulled off the reigns only scoring two goals. One by Whitaker and one by Colby Wagner. The Cougars defense once again shut down the Bison offenese keeping them off the board.

The fourth quarter was quite similar as the Cougars outscored the Bison 3-0. Anthony Grebner scored his first goal of the season in the quarter and Rigdon assisted on a pair of goals. That gave the Cougars a dominant 30-1 win as they closed out the regular season.

The Cougars were led by Rigdon's nine points (2G 7A). Rigdon set a new single game assist record with his seven in the game. Whitaker recorded eight points (7G 1A) while Sahlgren added seven (2G 5A). Cody Randal went 31-of-33 on face offs, setting a new single game record, and picked up a team high 12 ground balls. The 31 face off wins gives Randal 243 face off wins on the season, setting a new single season record. Jesse Corser-James recorded a team high three caused turnovers. The Cougars went a perfect 13-of-13 on clear attempts while causing the Bison to go just 11-of-28.

The Cougars will be back in action on April 29th when they host a PAC Semifinal game at 7 PM against an undetermined opponent.
