Baseball Gets Walk-off Win over Eagles

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Baseball (15-6, 1-5 PAC) used a 3-run rally in the ninth inning of Thursday evening's game against Juniata (8-13, 3-9 LANDMARK) to pull off a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Cooper Baxter got the Cougars on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double. Eddie Rueda's base hit in the third brought in Devin Fluhmann to give Chatham a 2-0 lead. A home run for the Eagles in the fourth made the score 2-1, and Juniata would tack on two more runs in the inning before adding another two in the fifth. Cooper Baxter would plate Angelo DeLeonardis with an RBI base hit in the seventh to bring the Cougars back within 5-3. Then in the bottom of the ninth, a walk and an error put runners on the corners. Caleb Jones came through with an RBI single, then Rueda's double tied the score with still no outs recorded in the inning. With the bases loaded, Matt Brandt took the first pitch he saw to deep right field, bringing home pinch runner Dominic Colarusso to cap the dramatic win.

Baxter was 3-4 at the plate for Chatham with a walk and 2 RBIs. DeLeonardis scored 3 times from the top of the lineup, going 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Rueda was 2-5 with a pair of RBIs and also had a steal. Jones went 2-5 with an RBI, and Devin Fluhmann had a hit in 2 at bats while walking twice, scoring twice and swiping a bag. Riley Baum got the start on the mound, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts in 4 innings of work. Julian Baez tossed 2 scoreless innings while allowing just a hit.
