GLENSIDE, Pa. - On Saturday, the Cougars (3-2) traveled to Glenside for a match up with the Arcadia Knights (5-1). The two teams took turns scoring around sloppy play, eventually leading to an 11-8 loss for the Cougars.
Arcadia got on the board first just over two minutes into the game. Not long after the Cougars added a pair of goals 30 seconds apart. First it was
Luke Iovino scoring his second goal of the season, unassisted. Then it was
Adam Rinker scoring his fifth of the season assisted by Sean Creeded. The Knights then tied it up before
Thomas Whitaker scored his 19th goal of the season, assisted by
Jesse Corser-James, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead. Arcadia then scored the last two goals of the first quarter to take a 4-3 lead into the break.
The Knights added another to start the second quarter, giving them a then game high two goal lead. The Cougars then scored the next four goals before halftime.
Cody Randal got it started with the FOGO goal eight seconds after the Knights goal to cut the lead to one.
Luke Iovino scored his second goal of the day to tie the game before
Thomas Whitaker scored the final two goals of the half giving the Cougars a 7-5 lead at halftime. That gave Whitaker his 20th and 21st goals of the season, adding to his team high and recording his fourth consecutive hat trick.
Colby Wagner assisted on the first while
Erik Sahlgren assisted on the second.
The Knights scored first in the third quarter, cutting the lead to one before
Sean Creeden scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Cougars ahead by two. Unfortunately that would be the last goal the Cougars scored as the Knights scored the final five goals of the game, winning by a final score of 11-8, ending the Cougars three game winning streak.
Thomas Whitaker led the Cougars with three points (3G), while
Luke Iovino (2G) and
Sean Creeden (1G 1A) each had two points.
Jesse Corser-James recorded a team high six ground balls, giving him 24 on the season, while
Jack Neal caused three turnovers to lead all Cougars.
James Cipollone recorded 15 saves and a .577 save rate.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday March 14th when they host Capital at UPMC Graham Field at 4 PM.
