ADA, Ohio - On Saturday, the Cougars men's lacrosse team took the field for the season opener against the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears. The Cougars would come up short in this one by a final score of 10-4.
The Cougars would get on the board first to start the season as
Thomas Whitaker would score six minutes into the season, assisted by
Ethan Joshi. The Polar Bears score the next two goals in the low scoring affair stretching into the second quarter. The Cougars would tie the game at two following
Jacob Lubawy's man advantage goal assisted by
Devin Traister. The Cougars and Polar Bears would head to halftime in a low scoring 2-2 tie.
After the break, Lubawy scored his second goal of the game, unassisted this time, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead. That would be the last time the Cougars held the lead as the Polar Bears scored the next seven goals taking control of the game. The Cougars would get one back in the fourth quarter as Traister would get back in the score sheet, this time scoring a goal assisted by Lubawy.
James Cipollone, a transfer from Marietta College, played his first game in net for the Cougars making 17 saves with a .630 save percentage.
Cody Randal led the Cougars with four ground balls while
Jesse Corser-James recorded three.
Ethan Joshi led the Cougars with five caused turnovers.
The Cougars are back in action on February 25th when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play Marietta at 6 PM.
