CRESSON, Pa. – Chatham Men's Volleyball (1-0, 0-0 PAC) won their season-opening match in straight sets (25-8, 25-15, 25-16) on Tuesday night over Mount Aloysius (0-1, 0-0 AMCC).
First year
Derek Paul had an impressive Cougar debut with 8 kills and a match-high 9 digs. Junior
Tim McCabe recorded 6 kills with a .500 hitting percentage and an ace for Chatham. Sophomore Andrew Shepherd finished the match with 4 kills, 5 digs and a match-high 5 aces, the most by a Cougar since 2024. Junior
Jordan Haas had 4 kills with a 1.000 attack percentage. Senior
Alex Moncello contributed 9 assists, and sophomore
RJ Nagg tallied 8 assists and 2 service aces for Chatham. The Cougars' .354 hitting percentage was their highest since Jan. 19 2024, and they held the Mounties to a -.028 hitting percentage, the lowest by a Chatham opponent since March 26, 2024.
The Cougars won the first 6 points of the match and 12 of the first 15. Two kills and an ace from McCabe as well as two Nagg aces contributed to the early Chatham run. McCabe would pick up another kill in the opening set, and Haas would close it out with his third kill of the frame. The Cougars led the second set 8-3, but Mount Aloysius would cut their deficit to 14-10. Kills by

Derek Paul helped put Chatham ahead 20-12, and another Paul kill would give them a 2-0 match advantage. The Cougars kept the pressure on in the third set, as four consecutive aces by Andrew Shepherd gave Chatham a 6-2 lead. A Paul ace and kill would make the score 14-7, and the Mounties would get as close as 14-11 before the Cougars pulled away and Paul sealed the victory with a kill.
Chatham's next match will be their home opener, a 7 p.m. meeting with Bridgewater on Saturday.
