PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Women's Volleyball (2-0, 0-0 PAC) opened their 2025 season with two emphatic straight set victories over Pitt-Greensburg (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) and Wilson (25-9, 25-4, 25-17).
The Bobcats (1-5, 0-0 AMCC) were the Cougars' first opponent of the season, and Chatham won comfortably despite playing quite a few players that did not don the purple and gray in 2024. Evie White and
Becca Gesner both tallied a match high 9 kills to lead the Cougars.
Delaney Schwind served up 3 aces and 18 assists in her first match with Chatham.
Sierra Ricci tallied a match high 31 digs and added 2 aces.
Ava Plunkard returned with 17 assists, and Gesner, White, and
Paige Watson all blocked 2 UPG attacks. As a team, the Cougars hit .209 and recorded 42 kills to the Bobcats' 19.
The Phoenix (0-4, 0-0 United East) were Chatham's second opponent, and the Cougars found their stride, allowing Wilson just 13 points in the first two sets combined.
Becca Gesner racked up a match high 11 kills for Chatham.
Delaney Schwind was the match leader in both assists with 13 and digs with 14. Evie White, who was also playing her first matches with Chatham, paced the Cougars with 2 blocks.
Vanessa Mleczko recorded a match high 2 aces from the service line for Chatham and had 11 digs.
Alexia Bowers finished the match with 7 kills and 11 digs for the Cougars, who had an attack percentage of .321 in their second match while holding the Phoenix to a -.146 clip.
Chatham will look to ride their momentum into their third match of the season, a Tuesday evening bout with Carlow at the Athletic and Fitness Center at 7 p.m.
