Women’s Soccer Draws against Penn State Altoona

Pittsburgh, PA. - Chatham women's soccer draws visiting Penn. State Altoona by a score of 3-3 in a chippy afternoon affair. 

 

Senior Halle Marsalis put the Cougars up 1-0 early, scoring from a shot in close, her 4th goal of the young season. The Lady Lions equalized in the 38th minute, with a goal by senior Rachel Rutkowski. 

 

The Cougars came out strong in the second half, going up 2-1 with Halle Marsalis's second goal of the game. Penn State Altoona fought back by tying the game in the 63rd minute with freshman Kira Trexler, scoring her fourth goal of the season. Trexler scored again in the 76th minute to put the Lady Lions up 3-2 late in the second half. 

 

With their backs against the wall, the Cougars turned to graduate student Kelli Hogarty. She scored her second of the season in the 82nd minute, assisted by Maddy Bailey, and tied the game 3-3. The score would remain tied despite numerous chances on both sides as the second half progressed. 

 

The match finished with 6 total yellow cards, 4 for the Cougars and 2 for the Lady Lions. Chatham controlled much of the game, ending with 13 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks. 

 

The Cougars will look to extend their unbeaten streak as they hit the road on Wednesday, September 17th, facing Marietta College for a 7 pm start.
