Men’s Soccer Open the Flood Gates for their Season Opener

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, PA. - Chatham Men's Soccer kicks off the 2025 season with a 3-0 win over the Marietta College Pioneers.

In what started as a back and forth game between the Cougars and the Pioneers ended up falling perfectly in line with everything the Cougars wanted to achieve this evening, and this season.

With a scoreless game until about 20 minutes into the first half, sophomore Charlie Ayers opened the scoring with the game winning goal to give the Cougars the edge they needed. This goal would start a domino effect for the rest of the night in Chatham's favor.

It wasn't until the second half that the Cougars founds the back of the net again when sophomore Bennett Haas added his name to the score sheet. He then added the third, and final, goal of the night when he stayed electric in following shots.

Junior goalkeeper Maxwell Cottrill kept a clean sheet tonight, which included a big penalty kick save in the first half. Cottrill's penalty kick save kept the scoring at 0-0 and allowed the Cougars to stay alive fighting to gain the edge first. After Chatham started scoring, Cottrill made sure to keep the Pioneers out of the back of his net.

The Cougars look to carry this energy into their next game which is Monday, September 1st at 1PM. They will travel to Frederick, MD to take on the Hood College  Blazers.
