Cougars to Address Gettysburg in NCAA Tournament First Round

PITTSBURGH – On Friday, Chatham Men's Basketball will play in the program's third-ever NCAA Tournament game as they take on the Gettysburg Bullets at 4:30 p.m. in the First Round on the campus of Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

The Cougars, who won the program's third PAC Championship on Saturday, enter the game with a 23-4 record (18-2 in the PAC), while the Bullets currently own a 20-7 record (10-3 in the Centennial Conference). Gettysburg, who were ranked in each of the first four D3Hoops.com top 25 polls of the season, fell in the Centennial Conference Semifinal to Johns Hopkins with a 69-67 overtime loss.

A win for Chatham would be the first of any team in an NCAA National Tournament in school history. Chatham Men's Basketball is 0-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars are led by PAC Player of the Year Diaun Pinkett, who has averaged 17.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.9 assists per game this season. Pinkett, who is the first PAC Player of the Year in program history, has 82 steals on the year, which rank eighth in the country and are the most in a season in program history. Chatham has another All-PAC First Team player in Lovenson Xavier, who has averaged 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game, which all rank in the top 10 in the league.

The Bullets also had two First Team All-Conference selections in Jordan Stafford and Carl Schaller. Stafford claimed CC Defensive Player of the Year and has averaged 16.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game to go along with 73 assists, 26 steals and 19 blocks, while Schaller leads the team at 16.3 points per contest.

The winner of the First-Round matchup will advance to Saturday's Second Round to face the winner of hosting Wesleyan and Delaware Valley. A link to the bracket can be found here.
