FREDERICK, Md. - On Saturday, the Cougars (5-4) completed their non-conference matches with a trip to face off with the Hood College Blazers (5-1). The Cougars got the scoring started early and held on to their lead winning 19-14.
The Cougars came out firing offensively, taking a 3-0 lead only five minutes into the game. The Cougars continued offense in the early going and gave them an 8-4 lead as the teams reset for the second quarter. The second quarter was not as explosive as the first but the Cougars grew their lead outsourcing the Blazers 3-2, taking an 11-6 lead into halftime. The third quarter felt more like the first as the offense shined, scoring five goals and growing their lead to as many as seven heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Blazers clawed their way back into the game scoring five goals in the frame but the Cougars added three more and won by a final score of 19-14.
The Cougars were led by
Tanner Marsh who had 4 goals and set a new program single game record with 6 assists, which gave him 10 total points on the day tying the single game record.
Ethan Rinker had five goals to lead the team and
Liam Rooney added three.
Jacob Lubawy had one goal and two assists as well.
Cody Randal had nine ground balls, leading the team, and went 17 for 32 in face offs.
Ethan Joshi caused four turnovers, the most for the Cougars, while adding a goal and an assist.
Zen Smith spent the first 48 minutes of the game manning the net making 13 saves for a 56.5% save rate.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday March 29th when they open conference play against W&J at home for Senior Day. The game will start at 4 PM.
