PITTSBURGH, PA – Chatham Baseball (8-10, 0-2 PAC) dropped both games of their doubleheader to open PAC play against Grove City (11-6, 2-0) by scores of 12-2 and 15-2.
The Cougars gave up 2 runs in the top of the first inning in game one, but were able to respond in the bottom half of the inning.
Eddie Rueda doubled in
Angelo DeLeonardis, then scored on a
Nolan Boehm base hit to knot the score at 2-2. Those would be the only Chatham runs in game one, as the Wolverines would put up 7 runs in the top of the second, 1 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth to earn the 10-run victory.
Eddie Rueda was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, and
Nolan Boehm went 1-3 and drove in a run.
Garrett Blosser and
Julian Baez both tossed scoreless innings for the Cougars on the mound.
Chatham took the lead in game two when
Devin Fluhmann scored on an
Eddie Rueda sacrifice fly. Grove City scored the next 7 runs, including a 4-spot in the fourth. DeLeonardis' RBI single in the sixth inning drove in
Asa Hinkle and made the score 7-2. Down 15-2 in the eighth, the Cougars tacked on a run via a Boehm base hit that brought around Rueda.
Caleb Jones finished game two 2-2 at the plate and drew a walk. Rueda went 1-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
Connor Carr-Matthews gave up one hit in a scoreless inning in relief for Chatham.
The Cougars will travel to Bethany for a Tuesday twin bill beginning at 1 p.m.
