Men's Hockey Traveling to Utica for UCHC Semifinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Saturday the Chatham men's hockey team (10-14-2) will continue their postseason run when they face the UCHC regular season champs and no. 3 nationally ranked Utica Pioneers (20-3-2). 

The Cougars earned their spot in this game with a 3-0 win against the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Wednesday. The goal scorers for the Cougars were Tyler Samodral, Nick Cyprian and Evan Mitchell. Geno Pichora posted a 48 save shutout in net making highlight reel saves to hold off the Golden Flyer attack.

The Cougars and Pioneers have matched up four times in the regular season with Utica holding a 3-0-1 lead in the season series. The Cougars won a shootout in their February 7th 3-3 tie. Cyprian was the leading goal scorer for the Cougars against the Pioneers in the regular season with three, Kyle Contessa had two goals and scoring one was Zack Conner, Jack Arizo, Samodral and Michael Roby. Pichora made 100 saves in the two games he played against the Pioneers in the regular season with a save rate of 92.6%.

The Cougars and Pioneers will drop the puck at 7 PM in Utica, N.Y. The winner will advance to the UCHC title game on Saturday March 8th. The location and opponent will be determined after the games on March 1st.
