Men's Basketball Shoots Their Way to PAC Final

PITTSBURGH – Chatham Men's Basketball (22-4, 18-2) clinched a spot in the PAC Final after a 91-80 win over the Grove City Wolverines (16-11, 12-8) in front of a full house at the AFC on Thursday. This will mark the Cougars' third finals appearance in the last four seasons.

Simon Boyer led the Cougars in scoring with 23 points on 8-14 shooting with four three-pointers and two steals. Diaun Pinkett added in a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while ending three assists shy of a triple-double. Easton Fulmer scored 19 points, including 16 in the second half, with five threes. Blaine Gartley and Zavea Green each contributed 10 points.

What started as a massive first-half lead for Chatham shrunk back into a close game before halftime. Chatham opened the game on a 22-4 lead, which was led by eight points from Boyer. Grove City would respond with a 10-0 run, then a 12-2 run minutes later to make it 38-31 Cougars after 20 minutes of play.

The second half was chock-full of shooting, with the two teams combining for 16 three-pointers. The two sides had stretches of seven and four field goals that were exclusively from beyond the arc. Chatham built a double-digit lead at 48-38, but Grove City was able to bring it to 52-50 with 12-minutes to play. That's as close as the visitors would get, however, as Fulmer connected on three threes and Pinkett added another in a 16-5 Cougar run.

The Cougars shot 54% (27-50) from the field and 45.5% (10-22) from beyond the arc. 27 of Chatham's points came from the foul line as the team shot 79.4% from the charity stripe. Grove City won the rebound battle 39-31.

Men's Basketball will host the PAC Final against three-seed W&J on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the AFC.
