Men's Basketball Set to Host Grove City in Semifinal

PITTSBURGH – After earning the number one seed and a first-round bye, Chatham Men's Basketball will host the five-seeded Grove City Wolverines in the PAC Semifinal on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Athletic and Fitness Center.

The Cougars have won 13 of their last 14 games and seven in a row at home. Chatham's last home loss came at the hands of Thursday's opponent, Grove City, who defeated the Cougars 72-62 on Dec. 7. Chatham would win the rematch in Grove City on Feb. 1 by the score of 72-60.

Lovenson Xavier led the way for the Cougars in both contests, with 22 points in the loss and 20 in the win. Easton Fulmer knocked down four three-pointers for 12 points in the first matchup, then Diaun Pinkett provided 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in the second meeting.

Chatham is ranked fourth in the PAC in scoring (77.1 points per game) and third in the PAC in scoring defense (69.2 points allowed per game), while Grove City stands at eighth in offense (69.7 points per game), but boasts the best scoring defense in the league (65.9).

The Cougars have two scorers in the top five of the conference, with Diaun Pinkett (16.8 points per game) and Lovenson Xavier (16.7 points per game) neck and neck at fourth and fifth. The Wolverines' top scorer Chase Yarberough is 13th in the conference with 14.1 points per contest.

The winner of this matchup will advance to the PAC Final to face the winner of W&J and Saint Vincent. A link to the tournament bracket can be found here.

The winner of the PAC's Championship Tournament will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's Division III Championship Tournament. The selected Division III Championship teams, as well as the first and second round site selections, will be announced Monday, March 3rd. First and second round games are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 7-8.
