LOGAN, Ohio – Chatham Baseball (0-2, 0-0 PAC) dropped the first two games of their season on Sunday afternoon, falling 10-7 and 6-4 against Capital (2-3, 0-0 OAC) in a neutral site doubleheader.

The Comets opened the scoring in game one with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the third,
Angelo DeLeonardis singled in
Nolan Boehm,
Ty Blackburn scored on an error, and DeLeonardis scored on a
Peter Tadic sac fly to give Chatham a 3-2 lead. Blackburn would tie the game at 4 on a single in the fourth inning after Capital regained their lead in the bottom half of the third. The Comets then scored 3 runs in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Tadic's second sac fly of the game made it 7-5, but 3 more Capital runs in the seventh inning put the game out of reach. The Cougars would get 2 runs back in the final frame from a
Caleb Jones double, but it would not be enough to get the victory to begin the season.

DeLeonardis went 2-4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI,
Kayden Leck went 2-3 with a walk and run scored, and Jones and Tadic both had 2 RBI for Chatham.
Cason Bennett gave up 2 earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched with 3 strikeouts, and
Connor Carr-Matthews tossed a scoreless frame in the first game.

In the second game, Capital again opened the scoring in the first inning. The Cougars came back to tie the game in the second inning when
Kayden Leck scored on an error, and took the lead in the bottom of the third when
Ty Blackburn also scored on an error. The Comets would regain the lead at 4-2 before Chatham got within a run on a
Caleb Jones sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Capital scored 2 crucial runs in the top of the eighth, as Chatham would tack on a run in the bottom of the inning on a Leck single but would ultimately come up just short.

Tyler Cote went 2-4, Leck went 1-3 with a walk, run scored and RBI, and Blackburn went 1-2 with a run scored. Jones and
Angelo DeLeonardis also had an RBI each for the Cougars. On the mound,
Carter Beneigh took the loss despite giving up just 2 hits in 5 innings pitched. He struck out four and gave up 3 earned runs.
Dawson Morrow threw 1.2 scoreless innings and gave up one hit. Chatham out-hit the Comets 7-4 in game two.

The Cougars will play their home opener tomorrow at 6 p.m. against La Roche at West Field in Munhall, Pa.
