Pittsburgh, Pa. - On Saturday the Cougars (9-14-2) played the final season of the regular season when they hosted the SUNY Brockport Golden Flyers (6-17-2). The back and forth game came to a head when the Golden Flyers scored a late goal and an empty netter to win 5-3.
In the first period, the Cougars took a 2-0 lead when
Michael Roby scored two goals in the last eight minutes of the period. His first goal was assisted by
Jack Arizo. His second goal was assisted by
Kyle Contessa and
Brock Forrest.
In the second period, the Golden Flyers came out firing and scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. The Cougars answered back when
Brendan Pomerantz scored assisted by
Nick Cyprian and
Tyler Samodral. That sent the game to the third period tied at three.
In the third period both teams went back and forth looking for the winning goal without any luck. The Golden Eagles finally found the winner with less than five minutes left in the game. The Golden Flyers scored an empty net goal with one second left in the game to win the game 5-3.
The Cougars were led by Roby who had two goals. Defensively, they were led by
Zack Conner and
Evan Mitchell who had two blocks each.
The Cougars will be back in action on February 26th when they host the first round of the conference tournament at 5:30 PM. The game will be played at Alpha Ice Complex.
