Cougars Drop Close Game to Roos

Pittsburgh, PA -  On Saturday, the Chatham Women's Hockey team (1-9-0) hosted SUNY Canton (7-3-0). The Cougars lost the hard-fought game 3-0.

In the first period, the Cougars came out with high energy, trading chances with the Roos. After an extended back-and-forth, the Roos were sent to the power play. With the extra attacker, they scored to break the deadlock, leading 1-0. The Cougars headed into the first intermission, trailing by one goal.

The second period saw the pace of the game slow down, and defensive intensity increased. Cougars' goaltender stood on her head, making 19 saves in the period, to keep the Cougars within striking distance. The score remained 1-0 in favour of the Roos as the teams headed to the locker room, setting the stage for a pivotal 3rd period.

In the third period, the Roos extended their lead. At 10:19, the Roos scored again on the power play to go up 2-0. Moments later, the Cougars found themselves on the powerplay but were unable to convert on their high danger opportunities. SUNY Canton added an empty net goal late in the game to put the game on ice.

Brophy's play kept the Cougars in the game all day. She finished 39 saves on the day, good for a .951 SV%. Clarrisa Hayes and Avelyn Higgins led the way defensively for the Cougars, with 3 blocks apiece.

Up next for the Cougars, after a needed break for the holidays, is an away matchup against Trine. The game is scheduled for January 9th at 7 pm.
