Women's Basketball Tops Saint Vincent in Latrobe

LATROBE, Pa. – Chatham Women's Basketball (10-4, 8-2) secured a 73-62 win over the Saint Vincent Bearcats (8-7, 7-3) at the Robert S. Carey Center on Wednesday evening.

Ashlie Louden led the team with 22 points on 8-14 shooting, including 4-8 from deep, and four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Hannah Chenault scored 15 points with three triples while Madison Nereu was one rebounds away from a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine boards. Charjae Brock provided a spark on both ends of the floor with eight points, six rebounds, four steals and a block.

After Saint Vincent scored the opening basket, Chenault netted the next five points, including a three-pointer, to give Chatham an early 5-2 lead. The lead changed hands three times in the next three minutes before the Cougars engineered a 6-0 run to go up 13-8. Chatham then finished the opening frame with layups from Brock and Laukus to take a six-point lead.

The Cougar lead reached double-digits and more with an 11-2 run to begin the second quarter, which featured two triples from Louden. The Bearcats manufactured an 14-6 run over the final seven minutes of the half, with all six of Chatham's points coming from Louden, as the Cougars led 34-27 at the break.

Chatham's lead expanded to 38-29 in the opening minute of the third quarter, but a 10-4 run from the Bearcats brought them within three points with 5:01 left in the period. Saint Vincent then tied the game at 47 with 1:40 left in the third quarter, but Chatham answered with a 7-0 run featuring back-to-back layups off steals from Brock and Chenault, followed by a three from Chenault.

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars continued to shine from beyond the arc, with Louden and Chenault burying threes to help Chatham to a 60-49 lead with 8:49 left. However, Saint Vincent followed with a 7-0 run in less than a minute to pull back within four points, but again, the Cougars protected their lead, with an and-one from Nereu and a three from Louden stretching the lead back to double-digits, which proved to be too much for the Bearcats to overcome.

Chatham shot 38% (27-71) from the field, 29.6% (8-27) from three-point range and 84.6% (11-13) from the free-throw line. Saint Vincent was 100% (13-13) from the charity stripe, but just 33.3% (21-63) from the field and 25% (7-28) from long range. Rebounds were 47-41 in favor of the Bearcats, but the hosts turned the ball over 21 times to just 11 turnovers from the Cougars.

Chatham Women's Basketball will return for its third road game of the week on Saturday against the Westminster Titans.
