PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Chatham Women's Volleyball rolled into the win column in 2024 on Friday night, defeating La Roche in straight sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-16).
Zoie Bateman was exceptional for the Cougars (1-4), recording a career-high 13 kills, 3 service aces and 2 blocks.
Alyssa Leskovac contributed 11 kills and 16 digs for Chatham, who used used a .239 hitting percentage to romp over the hosting Redhawks (1-1).
Ava Plunkard's game-high 17 assists set up Bateman and Leskovac for dominant performaces, and
Paige Watson's .600 hitting percentage gave the Cougars' attack a necessary boost heading into the middle of the non-conference season.
Becca Gesner also got in on the Chatham success offensively with 8 kills.
The Cougars were able to reverse their fortunes defensively after a disappointing opening weekend, holding La Roche to just a .101 hitting percentage. Chatham stormed to a 14-6 lead in the first set and never looked back. They did not trail by more than 2 points at any time in the match.
The Cougars will continue their travels to open the season on Wednesday when they visit John Carroll in University Heights, Ohio, at 7 p.m.
