DAVENPORT, FL. - March 2, 2024 - Baseball opened up their spring break trip Saturday evening in Davenport, Florida. The Cougars came up with a split vs Elms College, with a loss in game 1 of 3-0 and a win in game 2 of 12-5. Chatham moves to 1-3 on the short season.
In game one, Elms struck first in the bottom half of the first inning with a run to get things started. The bats went quiet for both teams until the bottom of the fourth when Elms grabbed the two and final runs of the game. The Cougars scattered 3 hits in the game and Junior
Kole Mayle threw 2.1 scoreless out of the bullpen.
Sophomore trio of
Angelo DeLeonardis,
Caleb Jones, and
Peter Tadic tallied the hits for the Cougars.
In game two, the Cougars offense bounced back. Chatham broke the 0-0 game in the bottom of the 2nd, where they pushed 9 runs across. Sophomore
Jason Boller had a two-run single that scored Sophomore
Tommy Schubert and Senior
Jake Bredl. Freshman
Eli Kelley then followed that up with a two-run double to left center.
In the sixth inning,
Peter Tadic launched his first homerun of the season. Tadic finished 1-3 with three RBI's. Elms tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning and three in the seventh but it was too late of a push.
Bredl was 2-2 with two walks, Kelley was 2-4 with two RBI's, and DeLeonardis was 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
The Cougars are back in action on their Spring Break trip tomorrow as they will take on Russell Sage College in a doubleheader that starts at 3 PM Sunday.
