PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After the final weekend of conference play, the Cougars secured the sixth seed in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) standings. They will travel to No. 3 Wilkes on Wednesday for the UCHC Quarterfinals.
In December, Wilkes swept the season series against Chatham. The Cougars were shutout
4-0 in the first meeting.
Game two was more competitive, as the teams went into overtime on a last-minute goal by the Colonels. Wilkes ended the game 57 seconds into the extra time taking the season series 2-0.
Chatham finished the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and an 8-12 conference record. The Cougars had the fourth-highest save percentage (.912) and allowed the fifth fewest goals (80) during the regular season. However, The Purple and Grey were outscored 73-80 overall. Carson Grainer led the team with seven goals each, while Cyprian had a team-high 16 assists.
Wilkes closed the season with a 17-8 record while going 15-5 in conference play. The Colonels outscored their opponents 92-57 and boasted the most power-play goals (30) in the UCHC. Wilkes features 10 players who registered double-digit points, with six recording 20 or more. At the top of the list is junior Nick Swain, who tied for the second most points in the conference with 29. Swain also led the conference in goals with 20, while junior Joe Johnson had a team-high 20 assists.
The puck is set to drop at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
