PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After finishing the regular season as the 3-seed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), Chatham Men's Basketball will host the 6-seeded Bethany Bison on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Athletic and Fitness Center. The game will be broadcasted on the PAC Sports Network.
The Cougars (17-8, 15-5), who enter the postseason as the defending champions, swept the season series against the Bison (9-16, 8-12), which included a 123-85 home win on Jan. 24 that saw Chatham set new program records for points (123), field goals made (48), field goal percentage (65.8%), rebounds (52), assists (32). The Cougars also matched their program record with 19 made three-pointers, including eight from senior
Geoffrey Helm who ended the game with a career-high 24 points.
In the first matchup of the season between the two teams, Chatham came out victorious 88-70 at the Hummel Field House on Nov. 29. Sophomore
Diaun Pinkett (25 pts, 11 reb) and junior
Blaine Gartley (11 pts, 10 reb) both had double-doubles in that contest.
The Cougars enter the playoffs riding a seven-game win streak, with their last win marking a new program record for PAC victories (15). The Bison defeated the Westminster Titans in New Wilmington on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak and clinch a playoff berth.
Chatham ranks fourth in the PAC in points per game (78.2), points allowed per game (72.3) and rebounds per game (39.5). The Cougars also lead the conference in assists per game at 15.5. Bethany's offense boasts a scoring average that is tied with Saint Vincent for first in the league at 83 points per contest, but the Bison defense allows 87.3 points per game, which is last in the PAC. No team in the conference shoots more threes than these two, with 778 three-point attempts on the year from Bethany and 628 from Chatham.
The Cougars are 10-5 all time in PAC Tournament games. They are 4-3 in PAC Quarterfinal games and 5-1 at home in the PAC Tournament.
The winner will advance to the Tournament semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 22nd, while the PAC Tournament title game will be Saturday, Feb. 24th.
The winner of the PAC's Championship Tournament will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's Division III Championship Tournament. The selected Division III Championship teams, as well as the first and second round site selections, will be announced Monday, February 26. First and second round games are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 1-2.Â
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. PAC and institutional passes are not accepted at PAC Championship events. Students from PAC host institutions will be admitted for free with a valid college ID.
