Women's Basketball Drops Grove City to Finish Regular Season

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Chatham Women's Basketball (22-3, 18-2) closed the regular season with a 83-64 win over the Grove City Wolverines (11-14, 10-10) at Grove City College Arena on Saturday. The Cougars finish the regular season with the most overall wins and conference wins in program history and have won 21 of their last 22 games.

Junior Ashlie Louden had an all-around dominant performance with 26 points on 8-14 shooting, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Junior Charjae Brock netted 15 points and added four boards, two assists and two steals. Sophomore Hannah Chenault knocked down three three-pointers to finish with 11 points. Sophomore Alyssa Laukus had a big day on the statsheet, with eight points, six rebounds, five blocks and four assists. Her five blocks set a new career-high and matched the program record.

Louden and Laukus led the offense early, with nine and five points respectively during a 17-4 Chatham run to open the game. Grove City answered with a 7-2 run before the Cougars finished the quarter with a 21-11 lead.

Three-pointers from Chenault, Brock and junior Aurielle Brunner helped Chatham maintain that lead minutes into the second quarter before a 7-0 run from Louden gave the Cougars a 15-point lead. The Wolverines would score the next seven in response and Chatham went into the halftime break up by nine.

The Cougars opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run, with two layups and two assists from Brock. A 15-8 Grove City stretch brought the lead back to nine, but a three from Chenault would push it back to double-digits. Chenault scored the first five for Chatham in the fourth, and a 12-4 run to close the game gave the Cougars their largest lead of the day at 19.

Chatham shot 46.3% (31-67) from the field and 38.5% (10-26) from beyond the arc. The Cougars dominated the turnover battle, forcing 22 Grove City turnovers and committing just six of their own.

Women's Basketball clinched a first-round bye for the PAC Tournament as the two seed and will host the winner of three-seeded Bethany and six-seeded Saint Vincent on Thursday night at 7:30 at the AFC.
