Kuntar's Defense Earns Cougars Playoff Berth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Cougars split the season series with the Nazareth Golden Flyers (6-17-2, 5-13-2) to end the regular season. With this win, Chatham clinched a playoff berth for the fourth consecutive season.

The Cougars marked the first points of the game on a redirect by senior Lucas Rothe. Freshmen Andrew Martino and Kadsen Johnson collected the assists. Then, sophomores Cristian Adragna and Niklas Byman set up sophomore True Crowe's score at the 11:21 mark. Chatham led 2-0 entering the second.

At the 8:18 mark of the second, sophomore Nick Cyprian passed the puck from behind the net to his classmate Caden Smith for another score. Through the first two periods, the shots on goal favored the Golden Flyers, but first-year goalie Cameron Kuntar held them scoreless.

The final period was more balanced in terms of scoring, but the Cougars maintained their advantage. To start, freshman Nicholas Babbie took a loose puck and scored his sixth goal this season. Nazareth responded with two goals at 8:36 and 16:45. In favor of an extra skater, the Golden Flyers then emptied their net, but regretted it as junior Carson Grainer scored with no netminder.

The Golden Flyers were 0-for-2 on the power play as Kuntar made eight saves during the penalty minutes. Overall, the freshman goalie made 48 saves on 50 shots.

The Cougars ended the regular season with an 11-14-0 overall record and 8-12-0 conference record.
