ALTOONA, Pa. - Chatham Men's Basketball (6-1, 4-0) dominated in its 89-62 win over the Penn State Altoona Lions (4-4, 1-0) on Saturday at Adler Arena.
Lovenson Xavier scored 20 points, including four threes, and tallied eight rebounds to lead the Cougars in the winning effort. Xavier also racked up four assists and three blocks.
Diaun Pinkett netted 13 points, grabbed eight boards and recorded six steals to match his season high.
Easton Fulmer scored 15 points in 19 minutes of play and went 3-7 from beyond the arc.
Hunter Verling went 4-5 from the field to score eight points with six rebounds.
Penn State Altoona knocked down a three-pointer on the opening possession of the give, but Chatham eventually responded with a three from Xavier to tie the game. After three lead changes, the Cougars went on a 14-0 run, which included seven points from Pinkett, to take a 20-7 lead.Â
The Lions scored five straight to cut it to 20-12, but a triple from
Drew Vizenor put the Cougars back up by double-digits. Chatham grew their lead to 16 with just over four minutes left in the half, then back-to-back threes from Xavier and Fulmer made it 44-22. A tip-in from
Zavea Green at the first half buzzer gave the Cougars a 51-24 lead at the break.
Penn State Altoona opened the second half on an 8-3 run, but were unable to keep the momentum as the Cougars maintained a 20-plus point lead for most of the second half.
Chatham shot 50.8% (30-59) from the field and recorded season highs in both three-point percentage and free-throw percentage at 44.8% (13-29) and 94.1% (16-17) respectively. Chatham also had its most rebounds (44) and best rebound margin (+15) of the season.
On Wednesday, the Cougars will return home to host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. That game, which is scheduled for 8 p.m., will be broadcasted on the PAC Sports Network.
