Angola, Ind. - On Wednesday the Cougars (0-8-1) took on the Trine Thunder (4-2-2) for the final game of the midweek set. The Cougars fell by a final score of 5-3.
In the first period the Cougars came out strong taking a 1-0 lead when
Chelsea Clark scored her first goal of the season assisted by
Morgan Black and
Liv McTavish. That would be the extent of the scoring in the first period and the Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second period the Thunder offense found traction when they netted two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. The Cougars were outshot in the second period 14-1.
In the third period it looked to be more of the same as the Thunder put up two more goals early in the third period. The Cougars would answer back when
Morgan Black scored her third goal of the season assisted by
Liv McTavish.
Samantha Barrett then brought the Cougars within one goal when she scored her first goal of the season assisted by
Morgan Black and
Liv McTavish. The Thunder would answer back with their fifth goal of the game to make the score 5-3.
Samantha Brophy was in net for the Cougars and made 34 saves on 39 shots, for a 87.2% save rate. Offensively the Cougars were led by
Morgan Black with one goal and two assists. The Cougars will be back in action on Friday December 5th, when they host Hilbert for a 3 PM puck drop.
