MEADVILLE, Pa. - Chatham Women's Basketball (3-2, 1-1) fell 73-65 to the Allegheny Gators (2-4, 2-0) on Saturday at the David V. Wise Center.
Charjae Brock paced the Cougars with 17 points on 7-12 shooting while
Madison Nereu put together a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Julia Calvin netted eight points with six rebounds and two steals.
Chatham opened the game on a 7-2 run which featured a three from Louden and layups from Nereu and Brock. Allegheny fought back with six straight points to take an 8-7 before a three from Brock gave Chatham the edge once more. Allegheny responded with a 14-2 run to take a 10-point lead with 2:17 left in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Chatham clawed back with a 12-1 run to cut the Allegheny lead to one, but could not regain the lead. The Gators would grow their lead back to eight before the halftime break. In the third quarter, the Cougars cut it to one point once again, but again, the Gators rebounded with a 7-0 run to separate themselves. Chatham got as close as three points with a Calvin three-pointer in the fourth quarter, but could not complete the comeback.
Chatham shot 36.2% (25-69) from the field and 35.0% (7-20) from deep. Allegheny narrowly out-rebounded Chatham 43-41. Allegheny got assists on 25 baskets and blocked four shots.
