Season Opener Ends in Shootout Victory at Albertus Magnus

Box Score New Haven, Conn. - The Cougars started the season with a shootout win at Albertus Magnus in game one of the two game weekend series.
Albertus Magnus led at the first intermission after a Falcon goal with 3:00 left in the period. The Cougars would answer back in the second with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the final intermission.
Sophia Taylor scored her first career goal with 9:26 left in the period assisted by Lily Schmear. With 3:39 seconds left in the second period the Cougars scored again when Morgan Black put the Cougars up 2-1 scoring on the power play. Her goal was assisted by Rainey Jessup and Sophia Taylor. The Falcons then tied the game at 2 with 13:44 left in the third period on the power play.
That would be the final goal of regulation. With neither team scoring in the five minute overtime period the teams then played a shootout where the Cougars won 2-1 with five shots from both teams. Scoring for the Cougars were Clarissa Hayes and Abbigail Cunkelman. Albertus Magnus out shot Chatham 37-31. Samantha Brophy corralled 35 saves playing all 65 minutes between the pipes for the Cougars, she also stopped four of the five Falcon attempts in the shootout. Sophomore Ella Sheffer and first year Sophia Taylor led the Cougars with four shots each.
The Cougars and Falcons will play again on Saturday November 2nd with puck drop scheduled for 4 PM in New Haven, Conn.
