PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 27, 2024 - Men's Hockey earned their second consecutive win on Senior Night over Fredonia (4-14-1). Junior
Carson Grainer netted two goals in the victory to help the Cougars reach their third-highest scoring output of the season. Chatham is currently outside of the playoff picture with a conference record of 4-10-0.
Four goals were scored in the opening period between both teams. Fredonia book ended Chatham's goals. The Cougar's first goal was a breakaway by sophomore
Cristian Adragna to tie the game. The outlet pass came from senior
Chris Dusek with freshman
Nicholas Babbie assisting. Then, at the 14:12 mark, Grainer scored his first goal of the night off assists from Babbie and junior
Evan Mitchell. The shots on goal favored Chatham 8-7, and it would extend its lead to three in the following period.
All three of the Cougars' goals in the second came on power plays. First, Grainer scored his second of the game and his fifth overall this year. He was assisted by sophomore
Oscar Saarinen and Mitchell. Next, Saarinen scored his first goal of the year with the help of sophomores
Nick Cyprian and
Caden Smith. Mitchell capped off Chatham's five-goal effort with Dusek and sophomore
Bekk McClaine assisting him. The Cougars led 5-2 leading into the third.
The final period saw the Blue Devils lead in shots on goal 27-8, which contributed to them tacking on another score at the 16:49 mark. However, the Cougars' 5-3 advantage was too much.
This game was Chatham's best power play performance this season, converting on three-out-of-six opportunities. The Cougars also blocked a season-high 20 shots.
The Purple and Grey will visit Arcadia on Feb. 2.
