PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 24, 2024 - Women's Basketball defeated the Bethany Bison (9-10, 7-7) by 21 for their 13th double-digit win. The Cougars are undefeated at home with a 16-3 overall record and a 12-2 conference record. Chatham made a season-high 15 threes and forced a season-high 28 turnovers against the Bison.
Junior guard
Ashlie Louden tallied a game-high 23 points on an efficient 8-14 from the field, including seven made threes (tied for her career high). Fellow junior
Zelimar Rodriguez tied her career high of four threes on her way to 16 points on 6-7 shooting. Junior
Aurielle Brunner packed the box score with 11 points, five rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Sophomore
Alyssa Laukus snared a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points and three assists.
The Cougars opened the game on a 16-0 run. Bethany responded with a 9-0 run, but that would be the closest the Bison would be on the scoreboard. Chatham ended the first with a 10-0 run, capped off by Rodriguez's second three of the quarter. The Cougars rode the 26-7 lead into the second and widened that margin to 32 by the half. Louden connected on four of her seven threes in the second, bringing her total to 18 before the intermission.
After shooting 58% from the field and 65% from distance, Chatham cooled off in the second half (10-34 on field goals and 4-16 from three). Bethany outscored Chatham 36-25 in the second but never gained the lead after trailing 52-20.
Overall, the Purple and Grey shot 43% (28-65) from the field and 45% (15-33) from three. The team scored 16 second-chance points and 16 fast-break points.
Women's Basketball will host Franciscan on Saturday at 12 p.m. for the Alumni Game.
