Men's Basketball Will Visit Saint Joseph (CT) in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 27, 2023 - After Monday afternoon's selection show, Chatham Men's Basketball has learned their destination and opponent for the opening round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Cougars will head to West Hartford, Connecticut to take on the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Blue Jays. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:45 PM at the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium.

This will be the second ever NCAA Championship Tournament appearance for Men's Basketball and the third of all Chatham team sports. The Cougars earned a tournament bid in the 2018-19 season after winning the PAC Tournament in the team's first year under head coach David Richards.

Richards and the Cougars earned an automatic tournament bid again this time by winning the PAC title with a 76-73 upset victory against the Allegheny Gators in Meadville. They will now face the Blue Jays, who enter the tournament with a 27-1 record, with their only loss coming in their last contest, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game on Sunday.

Sixteen sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition Friday-Saturday, March 3-4. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites March 10-11. Winners of the four sectional championship games will advance to the semi-finals and finals March 16 and 18. All games, except the semi-finals and finals, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN. The offical tournament bracket can be found here.
