PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 11, 2023 - Chatham Women's Hockey hosted Neumann tonight in their final game of the regular season. After last night's 2-1 loss, Chatham's offense came out hard and played to a 4-1 final.
Neumann would score first, but it would only take 18 seconds for Chatham to respond. Junior Abi Fuzaylov found the back of the net, converting a pass from sophomore linemate Karalyn Luby. The assist was Luby's first collegiate point.
Building off of her momentum, Luby scored the first goal of her career before the first period was up, working together again with Fuzaylov as well as senior Fiona Danahy.
A power-play opportunity presented itself late in the second, and the Cougars capitalized. Junior Allison Corser-James was assisted by classmate Ally Nolan and graduate student Ashley Marchant in the endeavor.
Chatham's fourth goal came halfway through the third by none other than Brooke Almond on her senior night. She was assisted by Lauren Carmody as the insurance goal put Neumann past the point of coming back.
Luby and Fuzaylov both had a game-high two points. In the circle, Almond and junior Cameron Carmody both won a team-high ten draws.
Senior Dena Akers recorded a team-high three blocks tonight in front of junior Lilly Rogers, who made 27 saves in the victory.
With the final win of the regular season, the Cougars stand at 11-13-1 overall and 10-9-1 in the UCHC. Having already clinched a playoff berth, the Cougars now wait to receive their opponent in the UCHC Quarterfinals, set for February 22, 2023.
