PITTSBURGH, Pa. - December 9, 2023 - Chatham Women's Basketball (8-2, 6-1) secured a 69-51 victory over the Westminster Titans (5-4, 4-3) on Saturday at the AFC. The win is the seventh in a row for the Cougars, which ties the program record for the longest win streak. Each win this season has been by double digits.
Sophomore guard
Hannah Chenault led the game with 14 points on 3-7 shooting and went 6-6 from the free-throw line. She added eight rebounds and five assists, which were also team highs. Junior forward
Samantha Hardy came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points on 6-8 shooting with six boards, three steals and a block. Junior guard
Aurielle Brunner had nine points on three triples and pulled down three rebounds.
The Titans started the game on a 9-2 run and held the Cougars to just 1-5 from the floor to start. However, the Chatham offense would rally to cut the lead to two by the end of the first quarter and take the lead early in the second quarter. The Cougars began the second quarter the same way the Titans did the first, with a 9-2 run, including four points from Hardy, and went into the half with a six-point lead. Chatham won a low scoring third quarter 12-8 and kept the defensive pressure on high for the four quarter with five steals.
The Cougars shot 38.5% (25-65) from the field and 34.6% (9-26) from deep while holding the Titans to 7.7% (1-13) from beyond the arc. The turnover battle was key to the win, as the Cougars forced 20 turnovers and committed just nine.
Women's Basketball will travel to Puerto Rico on Dec. 19 and 20 for two games at the Puerto Rico Clasico over the winter break.
